A Message from the Founder of Bacon & Heels

HELLO THERE!

When I hear women say that money is boring or that they wish they could meet someone to handle their finances, it truly drives me nuts.

I get it—personal finance can seem intimidating, but I believe it doesn’t have to be that way. I was fortunate to grow up in a family where conversations about budgeting, saving, and investing were common topics around the dining room table. Money wasn’t a taboo subject; it was part of everyday life.

But as I grew older, I realized this wasn’t the norm. I watched friends struggle with money management, often saying things like, “I’m just not good with money” or “Budgeting is way too complicated.” It was these comments—and seeing the stress that followed—that lit a spark in me to share what I’d learned. Pretty soon, friends were coming to me with questions on everything from starting to invest to simple budgeting hacks. That’s when I realized: if we talked about money more openly, maybe more women would feel confident managing it.

So, I created Bacon & Heels to make financial literacy accessible, relatable, and yes, even a little fun. Here, you won’t find financial jargon or get-rich-quick schemes. Instead, I’m sharing real-life tools, insights, and my own experiences—including the mistakes I’ve made along the way—so that managing money feels doable, not daunting.

I'm not a financial planner; I’m a financial literacy educator—think of me as your financial literacy ally. My goal is to educate and empower women worldwide to understand their money, make confident decisions about saving, getting out of debt, and investing, have more informed conversations with their bank or financial planner, and ultimately rewrite their financial stories. I believe that financial literacy is a life’s skill, and with Bacon & Heels, I goal is to break down barriers around money and show that effective money management is possible for everyone.

Thank you for being here. Are you ready to take control of your money? Let’s do this!

HELLO THERE!

When I hear some ladies say that money is boring and that they wish that they can meet a rich man/lady to help them save, it drives me nuts. Case in point: A few years ago a friend of mine was in a tight  financial spot: she had broken up with her boyfriend, he asked her to move out of his condo and she had nowhere to go -  and only $65 in her bank account.

She called me at 2am on a Saturday morning crying. She came over to my condo and we spoke about how she was going to get out of this financial hole.  When I asked why she had so little savings, she said that she was not 'good with money' and she found budgeting and saving to be 'boring'.

This shocked me but it also was a watershed moment - I thought to myself how can I make this topic easier for people to grasp and to be excited about.

This is how Bacon & Heels took shape. Over the years, I have read many books about finances and developed a plan to save, spend and share.

Trust me, I've made my share of money mistakes, but the one thing I want to do with this blog is to share information about what I've learned and get to the bottom of money issues. We all can learn the basics about finances, and I will share tools (calculators) to help you see that effective money management is attainable. Also, this blog is a way for me to interact with people from around the world and learn more about why and how we spend. I remain hopeful that you will enjoy Bacon & Heels!
